The WESTCOAST Motorcycle Ride To Live was set to hit the road on Sunday, May 30th 2010 – the pre-registration was held on Saturday, May 29th 2010 at Holeshot Motorsports (Langley) and at Trev Deeley Motorcycles (Vancouver) – the Show & Shine at Trev’s had to be cancelled due to rain. The entire week should have been cancelled because of the rain.
On Saturday evening after a long day the Ride To Live Executive retired to the Accent Inn on Boundary Road to try to get some rest for the Ride day on Sunday. Most of our time was spent looking up to the sky hoping to see a break in the clouds; we finally gave up and tried to get some sleep (not easy). The alarms went off at 4:00 am (you guessed it) we ran to the windows praying for a change. When we saw that the rain had stopped – we did a little dance – had a quick breakfast and hurried over to Trev Deeley Motorcycles to start setting up (Darwin was already there – before the paper was delivered – and had the coffee started).
As the skies started to brighten – so did our spirits – hoping that other motorcyclists had looked out of their windows and were coming out for the Ride. We began getting everything ready for them. The streets were shut down; banners were put up, tables for registration, stage, souvenirs, coffee, etc. The Vancouver Fire & Rescue Rigs arrived and strung our banner across Boundary Rd. The 15th Field Artillery (RCA) arrived and began setting up our starting gun (105mm Howitzer) along with the many volunteers who were there to make the Ride work. It looked like we were going to have a Ride.
The motorcycles started to arrive shortly after 7:00 am for registration and started to fill the East & West sides of Boundary Road from 1st Ave to Lougheed Hwy. The fantastic staff from Trev Deeley Motorcycles did a amazing job not only with setting up but making sure that the coffee was served, the tire pressures were checked and welcoming the riders to their store-which they opened at 7:30 am. Thank you!
After welcome speeches from our Hosts and Celebrity Riders a Tribute to our Canadian Armed Forces, the national anthems (Canada & USA) by Jody JOHNS, tune by Piper Mike MacDonald, moment of silence, tune by the bugler Bombardier Ron Toth, instruction from Ride Captain Joe McKeown and Senior Drill Team member Cst. Steve Shaw, a Special Centering Exercise by Roy Henry Vickers and Bike Blessing by Slash (Christian Biker Group). The signal was given to Capt. Don Lamb to fire the cannon and start the Ride To Live.
The WESTCOAST Motorcycle RIDE To LIVE moved off north on Boundary Road – led by the Vintage 911 Vehicles & escort by Vancouver Police Motorcycle Drill Team. The VIP section included: Roy Henry Vickers (Famous Canadian Artist &designer of the logo and the 2010 poster for the Ride), Bro Jake Edwards, our M/C (The Morning Show – Classic Rock 101), Jackson Davies (Canadian Actor, Director & Producer), Steve Crevier (Six Time Canadian Super Bike Champion), Jon McComb (CKNW 980 – Host), Darwin Osarchuk (General Manager – Trev Deeley Motorcycles), Blake Clarke (Manager – Honda Canada Pacific Zone), Craig Prystay (President – RPB Hotels & Resorts), Chief Constable Brad Parker & Insp. Traveling down the Barnett Hwy into Port Moody - ending at the West Coast Express Station parking lot where riders received their 2nd poker card – thanks to Robert Currie (Ride To Live Executive) and the Port Moody Volunteers.
The Riders then left on the self guided tour. First to Sasquatch Provincial Park at Harrison Lake where the 3rd poker card was handed out and lunch was served by the Mission M&M Meat Shop - Thanks to Bob & Leslie Reed and family, Steve Henderson (Ride To Live Executive), Costco (Vancouver) and all the Great Volunteers from the Mission/Chilliwack area.
The 3rd Poker stop was at Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino (Cloverdale) where the Star Touring & Riding Association B.C. Chapter 5103 volunteered their time to set up, organize and staff the poker stop – Thank you all very much. Between them, this group also raised over $9,000 in pledges – Great Job!
